Shannon Calabro is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital where she is part of the care team dedicated to help guide patients and families in difficult decision-making regarding medical care which can include referrals to palliative and hospice care. Empathy and resourcefulness are two things she brings to her job every day, knowing they go hand-in-hand and will be needed. Shannon knows her impact when she helps advocate for a patient's wishes and sees those wishes being honored, particularly at the end of life.

Growing up on the Seacoast of New Hampshire, Shannon developed a love for reading obituaries in the Hampton Union newspaper and experienced hospice first hand at the end of three of her grandparents’ lives.

After studying criminal justice in college, Shannon was introduced to the field of social work while working at a law firm that had, at the time,  Vermont’s only dual attorney/social worker on staff. It was this experience that clarified Shannon’s desire to advocate for people when they are at their most vulnerable. And so she went on to obtain her master’s degree in social work from UNH in 2015.

When she’s not working, you’ll find Shannon adventuring at her off grid cabin in the White Mountains with her husband, Brad; son, Charlie; and pup, Bowie.
